Negombo possède un des principaux marchés aux poissons de la côte occidentale.
Pour pouvoir apprécier au mieux ce lieux de rencontre et d'échanges, où chaque famille de Negombo se retrouve, il faut s'y rendre très tôt.
Il y règne une atmosphère particulière ou chaque pêcheur essaie d'attirer le client vers son étale.
la grande diversité de poissons pêchés pendant la nuit et vendus souvent à même le sol sera consommé dans la journée. La beauté et la fraîcheur de toute cette profusion de poissons nous laissait imaginer tel ou tel espèce juste grillée ou plutôt cuit de façon traditionnelle avec un peu de curry et du lait de coco. Partout ce n'était qu'explosions de couleurs.
Comme dans beaucoup d'endroits où nous sommes allés au Sri Lanka, nous n'avons rencontré aucun touriste sur ce marché où nous avons, une fois de plus, pu nous immerger totalement dans la vie locale.
